Last week we announced an exciting new feature of the Tidelift Subscription called catalogs. This makes it even easier for organizations to get known-good, proactively maintained open source packages to use when developing applications.
Catalogs are the next step in bringing the concept of managed open source to life. They allow organizations to define and manage a custom set of trusted open source packages and versions they want developers to use, and standardize on them across the organization. You can also leverage the open source catalogs that are managed by Tidelift.
With the Tidelift Subscription and custom catalogs in place, you can now definitely answer questions like:
- Can I use this package? Just give me a clear yes or no.
- What is the single source of truth for which packages and versions are OK?
- Where can I find the repository of known-good packages that I can use?
